INTRODUCTION
We recognise that our activities have an impact on the environment, most significantly energy, waste, and supply chain and we are committed to integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business operation and minimising our environmental impact and promoting social responsibility.
Our Sustainability Ambition
FOCUS AREAS
Energy Efficiency
We know that energy consumption is one of our biggest impacts on the environment and we understand the huge importance of using energy efficiently, so we are;
- Regularly assessing and optimising energy consumption across the site, not just in our production facilities.
- Investing in energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources to reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources and we’re committed to increasing the percentage of our energy coming from renewable sources by at least 60%.
- Minimising water consumption, and responsibly manage waste water and effluents to reduce environmental impact.
Waste Reduction
We’re reviewing where we can reduce waste and consumption throughout our supply chain, for example: reducing excess packaging, reducing waste of raw materials, reducing food miles & reducing travel.
- We have implemented waste reduction strategies to minimise food waste during the production process.
- We strive to use packaging materials that are recyclable or biodegradable and we are encouraging our customers to recycle our packaging by providing clear recycling instructions on all our packaging.
- We have set ourselves a target of less than 0.5% of food waste in our factory, which we will review ourselves against every 6 months.
- We have consolidated and selected waste collection partners that ensure proper recycling and zero waste to landfill.
- Packaging and EPR Compliance reporting as per regulations.
Responsible Sourcing
- We are prioritising sourcing of raw materials from suppliers who adhere to sustainable and ethical practices.
- We are minimising our carbon footprint by sourcing locally wherever possible to reduce transport emissions.
- We are working closely with suppliers to continually assess and improve sustainability practices throughout the supply chain.
- We have continued to expand our meat free options and sustainability is an important factor in new product development process.
Social
- Ensure a safe and inclusive workplace that values diversity and equal opportunities for all employees.
- Uphold ethical business practices, promoting fair employment conditions and ethical supply chain management.
- Actively engage with local communities, striving to contribute positively to the regions where we operate and supporting initiatives that enhance community well-being.
- Provide training and resources to employees to promote sustainable practices in the workplace.
WAY FORWARD
We’re working on understanding of our carbon footprint and carbon ‘hotspots’, not just in our factory, but all the way back in our supply chain.
Currently, we have developed an in-house framework to track and calculate our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions with the baseline year as 2022 and have been constantly monitoring multiple metrics in our factory and downstream supply chain.
Going forward, we will also start including our upstream supply chain as well. We use lots of different ingredients coming from multiple suppliers from lots of different places, so this is quite a complex and time-consuming process. This information will allow us to set meaningful targets for ourselves.
By end of 2024, we intend to set carbon footprint reduction targets using Science based targets initiative and in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
These will be tracked and reported back to the business during Monthly Management Meetings.
